What If I Bought
What If I Bought is a free, no-signup investment calculator that answers a simple question: if you had invested a certain amount in a stock or asset on a specific date, what would it be worth today?
Enter any publicly traded ticker symbol, an investment amount in US dollars, and a start date — and we'll show you the current value along with your total gain or loss. We also compare your pick against a handful of common benchmarks so you can see how it stacks up.
We look up the adjusted closing price of your chosen ticker on or near the date you entered, then compare it to the most recent available price. Adjusted prices account for stock splits and dividends, giving you a realistic picture of total return.
Market data is sourced from third-party financial data providers and is subject to their availability and accuracy. Prices are typically delayed and may not reflect real-time values.
This tool is purely for informational and entertainment purposes. It's a fun way to explore historical market performance — nothing more. It is not financial advice, and it should not be used as the basis for any investment decision.
Past performance is not indicative of future results. Markets can and do go down as well as up.
What If I Bought is an independent side project, part of the small ToccaTech collection of single-purpose tools. It started from a question almost everyone has asked themselves at least once — "what if I'd actually bought that back then?" — and the wish for a clean, honest way to see the answer without ads burying the result, an account wall, or a pushy upsell to a brokerage.
So it does exactly one thing and tries to do it well: take a ticker, an amount, and a date, and show you a clear number. It is not affiliated with any financial institution, brokerage, or data provider, and it never will be — that independence is the whole point.
It's worth being upfront about what this tool can't tell you:
